The facades and selected interior spaces of Philadelphia’s 1939 landmark City Court Building were restored. Interior wall and floor finishes include polished marble, colorful terrazzo, gilded and poly-chromed cornices, stenciled beams and friezes. The main reception areas, larger waiting rooms and court rooms include important WPA murals. Subsequent to this initial project, a building documentation and assessment study was prepared for the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation to guide the long-term preservation of the historic features and spaces in anticipation of new development initiatives. |
