Our client for this new residence near Philadelphia had lived in Ireland and developed great affection for Georgian manor houses as well as for the work of architect Edward Lutyens. Set in formal gardens, our design features vernacular materials blended with traditional and more formal classical elements. The windows and bays are trimmed with handmade brick set in richly textured fieldstone walls with no visible mortar. The roof is composed of classic English Plain clay shingles above a deep plaster cove cornice. The interior features a first floor enfilade connecting the formal and informal spaces and incorporating the main staircase. |
