The Firm
About

John Milner Architects is a 22-member firm that specializes in the evaluation, restoration, and adaptation of historic buildings as well as the design of new buildings that are often within an historic context. The firm provides comprehensive professional services including recordation, historical and architectural documentation, architectural conservation, construction documentation, and construction administration.

JMA is one of the most experienced and respected historic preservation firms in the profession. We are familiar with the architectural, technical, and regulatory requirements for a broad scope of restoration projects, including institutional and ecclesiastical buildings. While the plans for such work must be comprehensive and detailed, it is also necessary that they be historically and fiscally responsible to current technologies and budget allocations, as well as to future maintenance resources and scheduling.

JMA’s staff have outstanding academic qualifications with demonstrated experience through the successful completion of many projects over more than 35 years and including work on over 100 National Historic Landmark properties.

Our experience with regulatory agencies responsible for the oversight of historic buildings is also highly respected. This includes work with General Services Administration; National Park Service; Advisory Council for Historic Preservation (Section 106 Review); State Historic Preservation Offices; and local historic preservation review boards throughout the east coast. We are well versed in the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and have a strong commitment to the preservation and continued use of our country’s architectural heritage.
