Our firm has been working the Beth Sholom congregation to provide accessibility upgrades at the National Historic Landmark synagogue building. A new elevator will be installed to make all levels of the synagogue accessible to the public for the first time. Beth Sholom, a Conservative Jewish congregation, moved to Elkins Park, Pennsylvania shortly after World War II. Rabbi Mortimer J. Cohen persuaded Frank Lloyd Wright to accept the commission for the only synagogue he designed in his long career. Wright accepted the commission in December 1953, and the synagogue was dedicated on September 20th, 1959, just over five months after Wright’s death.
